The Transport & Logistics Industry Round Table was established under the Brumby/Labor Government in 2000 to improve Victoria’s transport and logistics capability.

It was recognised that supply chain efficiency was critical for the success of the State and any improvements that could be effected would have an immediate and beneficial flow on to the manufacturing and import/export capability of Victoria, and as a consequence, to the overall prosperity of Victoria.

The T&L IRT was led by an independent industry Chairperson (this position was government funded) and managed by an allocated representative of the State and Regional Development Department. The Department of Innovation, industry and Regional Development (DIIRD) provided managerial and administration support.

The T&L IRT had 7 Industry/Government Partner Reference Groups:
Business Systems, Education & Training, Freight Efficiency, Women in Supply Chain, Freight Owners, Careers & Recruitment & Intelligent Freight Transport Systems.

Along with 5 Regional Round Tables which focused on different aspects of the industry:
Geelong Region (based in Geelong), Gippsland (based in Morwell), Goulburn Valley (based in Shepparton), North East Victoria (based in Wodonga), North West Victoria (based in Mildura).

The T&L IRT concluded in 2010 after Government funding was withdrawn, however Industry saw the benefit of this broad church connection and remained connected; and as a result the Supply Chain Advisory Network (SCAN) was borne.
